First Impressions

Radio stations, artists’ management and record companies sift through hundreds of unsolicited CDs a week. It can be safely said that most all end-up in the waste basket or returned to the sender without ever being heard.

The single most important factor in getting someone to notice and listen to your material is the packaging – the cover art. The cover is your first impression: Quality cover art that grabs attention enhances the chance of someone taking notice and listening to the CD contents.

Design:

When creating 'cover art' It’s important to remember that your CD cover art will be used in Internet marketing as well as other promotional purposes in other media.

For instance, on the Internet, the cover will be viewed in various sizes (demonstrated below). The size of the CD cover on Amazon is about 90 x 90 pixels (0.98 x 0.98 inches/2.49 x 2.49 centimetres) to 400 x 400 pixels (4.17 x 4.17 inches/10.59 x 10.59 centimetres) in other Internet promotional applications.

In designing cover art, we consider legibility of the cover copy very important because much of the cover art detail will be lost at the when viewed at the 90 x 90 pixel size. However, by using bold type faces, the copy identifying the group/artist will still be readable. Therefore, we use bold type faces and not delicate scripts or fonts for the CD cover.

We recommend that any potential client visit Amazon and other sites that market music CDs and look at how finished product looks in those contexts.

What we need to get started:

1. Photos (The better the quality of photograph, the more flexibility we have in utilising it. However, we can transform most any photo into a useable and interesting image.)
2. Existing logo (When including a Logo, we insist that it is of the highest quality and sent in either a PSD, EPS or TIFF file – no JPEG or GIF files).
3. Liner notes, acknowledgments and song titles for the CD insert.

Depending on our work load, we will supply proofs within seven to ten days.
Upon client approval and final payment, the print-ready artwork will be delivered.

Terms of Service:

1. A deposit of 50% total cost is required upon agreement to to accept an assignment, and remainder upon completion - Contingent upon client approval.
2. Upon client approval and final payment, the print-ready artwork will be delivered.
3. Our set fee includes one revision of both the text and artwork.
4. The client will be charged at an hourly rate of £50 per hour for further revisions.
